What Can I Feed My Worms?

Worms can eat almost anything that is plant based with a neutral pH. Some good examples include:

  • Apple peels or cores
  • Leafy greens
  • Bread
  • Rice
  • Vegetable scraps
  • Coffee grinds

A good rule of thumb is if it will burn your eye, it will burn their skin. This means avoid onions, garlic, spice, ginger and citrus fruits as the citric acid will irritate their skin. Avoid meat and cheese as well. 

 

What are all the flies in my worm bin?

Fruit flies and fungis gnats are both attracted to worm bins because they are moist environments with plenty of food. To know which critter is enjoying your compost bin, check out our FREE Troubleshooting guide! Knowing which insect is in your bin, is necessary in order remedy the infestation. 

 

What is the shelf life of Plant Treats?

Since Plant Treats packaging is plastic free it is important that the tea bag doesn't become completely dried out. If you want to store the product for later use, place it in a sealed container so it cannot dry out over time. 

 

I have left over worm tea, can I save it?

Yes! The brewed worm tea can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 months. The bacteria inside the tea need oxygen to stay alive, so be sure to poke a hole in the container lid. 

Can I store left over worm tea in the freezer?

No, freezing the worm tea will kill the bacteria that is beneficial to plants. Store the brewed tea in the fridge for up to 3 months.
